Today brings a number of changes to employment legislation and here at  Acas North West we like to keep you up to date.

For a general 2 hour overview of all the recent changes we are running an Employment Law update in Manchester 27th August at 5pm.

The introduction of fees to file an application to the employment tribunal have been discussed for some time and these come in today. The Ministry of Justice has put together this handy fact sheet to help answer any immediate questions.

Alongside this new system will sit the existing fees remission scheme which means, in some cases, a fee may not be due.  The existing scheme is here

It should be noted that this scheme is currently the subject of consultation on amendments, recently concluded, information on those proposals can be found here

All of this follows on from a number of changes to tribunal rules and procedures in the last 12 months.

Here at Acas we are building towards the launch of Early Conciliation. From early 2014 anyone thinking of making an employment tribunal claim will need to contact Acas first. Building on the recent success of our Pre Claim Conciliation Service we aim to resolve workplace disputes quickly without the cost and stress of going through an employment tribunal.

If you would like to have a more detailed update we are running a series entitled Dispute Resolution–What’s Changing? to include coverage of the new Early Conciliation model.

Also introduced today is new legislation on Settlement Agreements. Settlement agreements are legally binding contracts which can be used to end an employment relationship on agreed terms. They can also be used to resolve an ongoing workplace dispute.

Acas has produced a Code of Practice which is free to download and will give you all the required guidance on the changes and how to move forward using best practice.
