Second Skyline Breakfast success

The second of the new series of Skyline Breakfast events took place recently.

High above the centre of Manchester at the Hilton Hotel Cloud 23 venue, the second in the new series of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce ‘Skyline Breakfast’ events has just taken place.

Delegates attending were in awe at the morning sunrise over Manchester as Emma Antrobus, Policy Manager – Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce got proceedings under way.

A welcome address was given by Kristy Williams, Director of Sales, Hilton Manchester Deansgate to  over 60 business delegates from in an around the Manchester area.

The keynote address was from Liz West, Metrolink Communications Manager who gave a guided tour, aided by a video simulation of the proposed Metrolink Second City Crossing.

The Second City Crossing is a key part of the £1.4 billion investment programme that will triple the size of the Metrolink network and is crucial to delivering Metrolink extensions and increase operational capacity in the city centre. It will also enable more tram services to operate and deliver improvements in the reliability of all Metrolink current services. This new proposed extension will also enhance penetration into the heart of the city, connecting both new and existing lines and improving connectivity for all travellers in Greater Manchester area.

The proposed Second City Crossing will run between Deansgate – Castlefield stop and Victoria Station, via St Peter’s Square, Princess Street, Cross Street and Corporation Street. The proposed new tram stop at Exchange Square will be accessible by ramps and steps. These expansion plans will also include changes to the existing Metrolink facilities at Victoria Station which will increase platform capacity in order to operate additional services. It will also link in to the future development plans of Victoria Station currently under public consultation.

As the Second City Crossing proposals are developed further TfGM are continuing to work with Manchester City Council and other stakeholders to ensure that the design is progressed in sympathy with the local environment and fully integrates with existing and proposed development plans for Manchester City Centre. A full question and answer session followed, an invitation to visit Bem Brasil, a Brazilian restaurant in the Northern Quarter, 10 sixty second pitches of businesses present, followed by networking amongst the delegates and presenters.
