Roadworks information for Highways Agency roads in the North West

7 Days beginning Monday 24th October 2011

M67 junction 2 Denton
There will be an overnight closure to the eastbound access slip road at junction 2 for maintenance work from 10pm on Monday 24 October to 5.30am on Tuesday 25 October. Fully signed diversions would be in place at all times.
A55 Vicars Cross Roundabout (junction with the A51)
Work starts on Monday 10 October on a joint scheme with Cheshire West and Chester Council to install traffic signals at the roundabout, renew road markings and carry out resurfacing. Work is expected to last until Monday 14 November. Work will be restricted to Monday to Fridays and overnight working only – 10pm to 5am. A programme of closures includes access onto the roundabout from A51, A55 exit slip roads and full roundabout with clearly-signed diversions in place. More information will be posted at
M53 junctions 4 – 9 Wirral
From Monday 26 September, there will be four miles of roadworks running from south of Junction 4 at Bebington to just beyond Junction 9 at Ellesmere Port. There will be a 50mph speed limit on all lanes while essential bridge repairs are carried out on the Eastham Viaduct at Junction 5 and safety works including a new barrier are taking place between junctions 8 and 9 at Ellesmere Port. The work requires occasional lane closures and periods of contraflow. Alternate overnight carriageway closures will be in place for short periods during the middle and end of the scheme for the installation and removal of traffic management, and the slip roads onto the southbound carriageway at Junction 8 and onto the northbound carriageway at Junction 9 will also be closed until mid-October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place at all times. Work on the bridge is due to end on Tuesday 9 November, and work between junctions 8 and 9 is due for completion by Thursday 15 December.
M56 and M53 (Stoak Interchange)
There will be occasional lane closures overnight and at weekends around junction 15 of the M56 and junction 11 of the M53 at Stoak while work to repair bridges and resurface the carriageway takes place. 50mph speed limits will be in force and fully signed diversions will be in place.
M53 (Bidston Moss)
Junction 1 Wallasey (bridge repairs) – there will be various lane closures in both directions at Bidston Moss Viaduct for bridge repairs. Work continues until the end of March 2012.
Brettargh Holt roundabout
From Monday 17 October there will be daytime lane closures on the roundabout and slip roads at Brettargh Holt between 9.30am and 4.00pm while bridge repairs are carried out. The work is expected to be complete by 11 December. From 28 October to 1 November there will also be night time convoy working with speed restrictions on the A6 westbound slip road for repairs and road marking work from 8.00pm to 6.00am.
A590 Dalton By-pass – Askham Road Roundabout to Ulverston Road
There will be daytime width restrictions along this section of the A590 while drainage works are carried out. The restrictions will be in place from 9.00am to 5.00pm from Monday 17 October to Friday 4 November.
A66 Appleby to Sandford
Daytime and night time traffic signals for resurfacing, drainage improvement, barrier and sign works 9am to 4pm and 9pm to 6am. Works are scheduled to be complete on the 23rd Oct. Work is scheduled to be completed on 26 October.
A590 Fiddlers Hall
A short section of the Westbound lane of the A590 near Fiddlers Hall, will be closed between Newby Bridge and High Newton for the second phase of a drainage scheme. Work will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day and again from 8pm to 6am the following morning. Manually operated traffic lights will guide people past the roadworks past the Eastbound carriageway and a 40mph speed limit will be in place. Work is due to be completed on 28 October.
A590 Hoad Lane to Arrad Foot
There will be daytime traffic signals in operation and lane closures in both directions for drainage works, from 9.30am to 3.30pm beginning on 25 Oct to 18 Nov.
A55, J36a (Saighton Army Camp – near Huntington in Cheshire)
Improvement works to the roundabout ahead of a new housing development mean that various lanes will be closed during off peak periods until the end of October. Once completed, the works will provide an additional lane on the exit sliproad.
