Green Business Award launched for Greater Manchester Businesses

October 27th, 2011

The Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with its partners at the ENWORKS environmental business support service to launch a prestigious new award, celebrating environmental best practice in the Greater Manchester business community.

The Chamber’s Greater Manchester Green Business Award is now open for applications and the deadline for entries is Friday 9 December 2011 (5pm). There is no fee to enter.

Organisations of all sizes and sectors across Greater Manchester are eligible to apply, including both Chamber members and non-members. There are two categories available: Small Business (fewer than 250 employees) and Large Business (250 or more employees).

The shortlist for each category will be announced by mid-January 2012 and the overall winners will be presented with trophies at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner, taking place at the Manchester Central Convention Complex on Thursday 8 March 2012.

Samantha Nicholson, Director of the ENWORKS programme added: “The Chamber’s Greater Manchester Green Business Award will celebrate those organisations – both large and small – that are demonstrating the greatest commitment to putting environmental best practice at the heart of their business success.

“Businesses and organisations increasingly recognise that sound environmental practice is a recipe for commercial success, and I would urge all those who are proud of their green credentials to enter.”

ENWORKS is the organisation behind the Northwest Business Environment Awards, an RSA-accredited feeder scheme for the European Business Awards for the Environment.

Earlier this year ENWORKS won NGO of the Year at the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards. The publicly funded, not-for-profit programme provides free, one-to-one support for businesses across the North West, including members of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, to improve their profitability by using resources such as energy, water and materials more efficiently.
