Royal seal of approval for North West companies
Companies across the North West celebrated in style last week as they attended an evening reception at Buckingham Palace to honour their status as winners of The Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
Representatives from six regional firms attended the event to toast their achievements in International Trade, Innovation or Sustainable Development.
The opportunity to meet Her Majesty The Queen and other members of the Royal Family was the ultimate recognition of their commitment to enterprise and innovation.
Preston-based Recycling Lives was among the companies in attendance after receiving a Queen’s Award for ‘outstanding achievement in sustainable development’.
The commercial recycler and social welfare charity offers 20 en suite bedrooms at its pilot centre in Essex Street, along with an education centre for anyone in need of help, including ex service personnel, ex offenders, the homeless and welfare dependent.
Recycling Lives Chairman and founder, Steven Jackson, said: “This Royal patronage from HRH Queen Elizabeth II has helped Recycling Lives in gaining the support of local authorities throughout the United Kingdom.”
Other North West companies show attended on the day include Euravia Engineering, based in Kelbrook, Lancashire, which won in the international trade category after more than doubling its overseas trade in three years.
The company repairs and tests specific types of aero engines and has received more than 70 RAF contracts over the past 15 years. It also supports over 50 civil operators across the world.
Euravia’s Managing Director, Dennis Mendoros OBE, said: “The Queen’s award is internationally recognised as a ‘seal of approval’ and proof of sustainable success. Undoubtedly, this award will enhance Euravia’s reputation and polish the company’s corporate image. We are planning to develop our export collaborations and joint ventures into emerging economies like China, India and parts of South America and we would encourage companies who are spearheading new technology and cultivating international markets to apply for The Queen’s award in 2011.”
The other North West winners in attendance were Rochdale-based Dunphy Combustion Ltd (innovation), Kendal’s Gilbert Gilkes and Gordon Ltd (international trade), Saddleworth-based Applied Language Solutions (international trade) and Prism Ideas in Nantwich (international trade).
Joanna Hill, head of the Queen’s Awards Office, said:
“It was great to see companies like Recycling Lives and Euravia Engineering honoured at Buckingham Palace for their hard work, and for achieving multiple Queen’s Award wins.
“These awards are not given lightly – all the North West winners have shown they are amongst the very best in their own industry, and country as a whole. This is a fantastic accolade that underlines the essential role of enterprise and business in our economy. I warmly congratulate all the winners for this recognition and I wish them the very best for the future.”
Since the prestigious awards were announced on The Queen’s Birthday, 21st April, winners have been making the most of their unique status in the marketplace, where winning the award brings acknowledgment of quality of products and services by customers and competitors alike.
Winners may also display The Queen’s Award emblem on all their branding and company literature to set them apart from the rest, while many have already enjoyed a memorable day with their workforce to mark the separate presentation of their award at their company premises.
Applications are already invited for The Queen’s Awards 2011. Forms can be completed and submitted online at www.businesslink.gov.uk/queensawards
