Mr Prescott who was touring the Urban Best Practice Area was curious to know what Liverpool was exhibiting and after an exhilarating trip round the pavilion he wrote in the guest book: “”A great visit – well done to all the team.”

Mr Prescott has strong links with the Liverpool city region having attended school in Ellesmere Port and worked for Cunard Line before entering politics.

Chris Heyes, Liverpool Pavilion Manager from Liverpool Vision, said: “Mr Prescott seemed to have a real fun during his visit and we are delighted he took the time to come and see how Liverpool is selling itself to the world.

“He had his photograph taken with Liverpool FC, enjoyed the 3D film, as well as some of the interactive business films, and he also spent a good deal of time looking at Peel’s Liverpool and Wirral Waters models when he reminisced about his time in Liverpool with the Merchant navy.”

Mr Prescott is not the only person to have enjoyed a visit to the Liverpool stand, which is now averaging close to 3,000 visitors every day.

Liverpool is the only UK city to have a dedicated presence at the World Expo. Its participation is being led by Liverpool Vision in partnership with the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), Liverpool City Council and the Liverpool-Shanghai Partnership.

The event is regarded in Liverpool as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to consolidate existing and forge new relationships in the world’s emerging markets and to showcase Liverpool’s track record of urban regeneration under the Expo theme of Better City, Better Life.
